Frequently asked questions

How much holiday am I entitled to working part-time?

Multiply your working days per week by 5.6. Three days a week gives 16.8 days; four days gives 22.4 days. Employers may round up but can't round down.

Can bank holidays be included in my 28 days?

Yes — there's no separate legal right to bank holidays off. Many employers include the 8 English bank holidays within the 5.6-week minimum; check your contract.

How is holiday pro-rated when I start mid-year?

Multiply the full-year entitlement by the fraction of the leave year remaining. Starting exactly halfway through with a 28-day entitlement gives 14 days.

Do zero-hours workers get holiday?

Yes. For irregular-hours workers, holiday accrues at 12.07% of hours worked in each pay period — roughly 7 minutes of leave per hour worked.
